Published specifications for this compact commercial size include both 117/116L and 118/116L service descriptions, and their maximum-load pressures are not identical. The first number in the service description is the single-tire load index; the second is the dual-tire load index. Therefore, 117/116L and 118/116L share load index 116 in dual fitment but differ in single fitment. That is why both examples list 1,250 kg per tire in dual use, while the 118-rated product carries more in single use.
The speed symbol L means a nominal maximum speed category of 120 km/h under the conditions defined by the tire manufacturer and applicable standards. It does not override vehicle, road, load, pressure or duty-cycle restrictions.
Hankook 117/116L load and inflation steps
Hankook publishes the following axle loads for its 8R17.5 117/116 reference. The single axle assumes two tires; the dual axle assumes four tires.

For example, an actual single axle weighing 2,200 kg requires at least a published row capable of carrying that axle load. In this Hankook table, 73 psi carries 2,220 kg. A 4,500 kg dual axle is above the 4,320 kg row at 73 psi, so the next published row is 80 psi with 4,660 kg capacity. These are examples for this table only, not universal settings for every 8R17.5.
Why 87 psi and 95 psi can both be correct
The different endpoints do not mean one manufacturer is wrong. The Hankook reference reaches its 117/116 maximum at 87 psi, while the Double Coin RT500 lists 118/116L maximum loads at 95 psi. Construction, casing design and product approval determine the applicable limit. Never extend the Hankook rows to a 95 psi product or assume the Double Coin endpoint describes every 10PR tire.
Rim and fitment checks
Both comparison examples use a 6.00-inch measuring rim and tubeless construction. Bridgestone also lists an 8R17.5 R273 product with an approved rim range of 5.25 to 6.75 inches, but that range should not be treated as approval for another manufacturer’s tire. - Use the heaviest wheel position on the axle and the correct single or dual column.

- Use one cold pressure across the axle and respect the lowest-rated tire, rim, wheel, valve, axle and vehicle component.

- Check pressure cold, before heat from driving raises it.
- Never bleed a hot tire to restore the cold setting.
- Match dual tires for approved size, construction, tread depth and inflation.
- Maximum tire capacity does not increase the legal or mechanical axle rating.
- Trailer, regional and mixed-service applications may carry additional speed or duty restrictions.
