275/70R22.5 Tire Pressure Guide: 148/145M, LRJ and City Ratings

There is no universal pressure for every 275/70R22.5 tire. The correct cold inflation pressure depends on the measured axle load, single or dual fitment, the tire’s load index and speed symbol, and the exact manufacturer load-and-inflation table.

This size is used across regional trucks, buses, mixed-service vehicles and trailers. That variety matters: two 275/70R22.5 tires can share the same physical size and even the same maximum inflation pressure while carrying different loads or operating at different maximum speeds.

Important: the last column is a published table endpoint or maximum inflation reference, not a recommendation to run every tire at that pressure. Select pressure from actual load. Also note that Michelin’s current data table displays a 130 psi column while its 900 kPa maximum is shown as 131 psi in product metadata; this guide preserves that distinction instead of silently rounding it.

Michelin 275/70R22.5 Load Range J table

The following values come from Michelin’s current truck data for the 275/70R22.5 LRJ X Multi Z. Single values are per tire. Dual values are shown as total capacity for a four-tire axle, matching the way this manufacturer table presents them.

Cold pressureSingle: kg per tireSingle axle: kgDual axle: kgDual: kg per tire
85 psi2,2504,5004,1402,070
90 psi2,3404,6804,3002,150
95 psi2,4604,9204,5202,260
100 psi2,5505,1004,6802,340
105 psi2,6405,2804,8602,430
110 psi2,7505,5005,0602,530
115 psi2,8405,6805,2202,610
120 psi2,9505,9005,4402,720
125 psi3,0406,0805,6002,800
130 psi3,1506,3005,8002,900

Example: if a measured steer axle weighs 5,050 kg, each of the two tires carries about 2,525 kg before any operational reserve is considered. In this Michelin table, 95 psi supports 2,460 kg per tire and is therefore insufficient, while 100 psi supports 2,550 kg. The fleet must still follow its approved reserve policy, vehicle limits and manufacturer guidance; the calculation is not permission to exceed an axle, wheel or tire rating.

Continental 148/145M pressure by axle load

Continental’s 2026 technical guide lists 275/70R22.5 regional products such as Conti Hybrid HS3 and HD3 with a 148/145M service description. The table below uses axle capacities: two tires for single fitment and four tires for dual fitment.

Cold pressureSingle axle capacityDual axle capacity
4.5 bar / 65 psi3,615 kg6,660 kg
5.0 bar / 73 psi3,935 kg7,245 kg
5.5 bar / 80 psi4,245 kg7,820 kg
6.0 bar / 87 psi4,550 kg8,385 kg
6.5 bar / 94 psi4,855 kg8,940 kg
7.0 bar / 102 psi5,150 kg9,485 kg
7.5 bar / 109 psi5,440 kg10,025 kg
8.0 bar / 116 psi5,730 kg10,555 kg
8.5 bar / 123 psi6,015 kg11,080 kg
9.0 bar / 131 psi6,300 kg11,600 kg

Do not combine rows from different manufacturers. Michelin and Continental reach the same 3,150 kg single and 2,900 kg dual load-index endpoints for their standard 148/145-class products, but their intermediate pressure steps and presentation are not identical.

Why 148/145M, 148/145K and 152/149J are not the same

A service description combines load index and speed symbol. For these examples, M corresponds to 130 km/h, K to 110 km/h and J to 100 km/h. The Sailun SAR1 148/145M and S815 148/145K share the same published maximum load and inflation figures, but their intended duty cycles and maximum speed symbols differ.

The 152/149J City Pro Z is a more important contrast. At the same 275/70R22.5 size and 900 kPa / 130 psi reference, its city-bus specification supports 3,550 kg single and 3,250 kg dual per tire. That higher load capacity does not make it a universal upgrade. Urban casing design, heat cycle, speed restriction, rim approval, vehicle approval and intended axle position all remain part of the selection decision.

Some city products also publish dual service descriptions, such as 148/145J at 100 km/h and 152/148E at 70 km/h. The higher load index is conditional on the lower E-speed service. Never quote the higher load without its speed condition.

How to choose the operating pressure

  1. Weigh the vehicle in its normal loaded condition. Individual wheel-position weights are preferable; axle weights are the minimum practical input.
  2. Identify whether the axle uses single or dual fitment. Divide a single-fitment axle load by two or a dual-fitment axle load by four only when the load is reasonably balanced.
  3. Read the complete sidewall service description, load range or ply rating, speed symbol and maximum limits. The truck tire sidewall markings guide explains these fields.
  4. Use the load-and-inflation table for the exact tire product. Select a published cold-pressure row that supports at least the actual load; do not interpolate an unlisted PSI.
  5. Apply the tire maker’s and vehicle maker’s operating guidance, including approved reserve, maximum wheel pressure and legal axle limits.

Cold pressure and fleet checks

Load tables specify cold inflation pressure. Check tires before driving, away from direct heat where possible. A pressure rise during service is expected; do not bleed a hot tire back to its cold target. Investigate repeated pressure loss instead of repeatedly topping up the assembly.

For dual assemblies, both tires should be compatible in size, construction and remaining diameter, with adequate spacing and matched pressure. One underinflated dual can transfer load and heat to its partner. A structured fleet pressure-management program is more reliable than occasional visual checks.

Manufacturer-specific chart articles can help locate the right source format. For example, the Goodyear truck tire pressure chart guide explains why the table must be matched to the tire’s exact specification rather than borrowed from a different brand.

Technical caveats

  • Pressure shown in a load table is the minimum cold pressure required for the listed load under that table’s stated conditions.
  • The tire, wheel, valve, axle and vehicle each have limits; the lowest applicable limit governs.
  • Load index equivalence does not guarantee interchangeable tread, casing, rim, speed or application approval.
  • Do not use a single-tire column for dual fitment, or divide a tandem group load without confirming distribution across the axles.
  • Older product sheets may differ from current databooks. Use the current table for the exact product and market.
  • No value between published pressure rows has been inferred in this guide.

Frequently asked questions

What PSI should a 275/70R22.5 tire be?

There is no single correct PSI. Weigh the axle, identify single or dual fitment, then select a published cold-pressure row from the exact tire manufacturer’s table that supports the measured load.

Is 130 PSI correct for a 275/70R22.5 tire?

130 PSI is a published endpoint for several 275/70R22.5 products, but it is not automatically the correct operating pressure. Actual axle load, service description, wheel limits and the exact product table determine the cold setting.

What is the difference between 148/145M and 152/149J?

148/145M identifies lower single and dual load indexes with an M speed symbol, while 152/149J identifies higher load indexes with a lower J speed symbol. The city-bus tire’s higher load rating must not be separated from its application and speed restriction.

Can a 275/70R22.5 city-bus tire replace a regional truck tire?

Not automatically. Confirm vehicle and rim approval, axle position, speed, casing and service suitability with the tire and vehicle manufacturers before substituting applications.

How do I calculate pressure for single and dual axles?

Use measured load. For a balanced single-fitment axle, divide by two and use the single column. For a balanced dual-fitment axle, divide by four and use the dual column. Then move to a published pressure row that supports at least that load.
